Royal London and drinks at O'Rattys

This day starts the official day of our itinerary, somewhat. We hopped on the Tube and exited the Victoria Station. We started walking down Buckingham Palace Road towards the Royal Mews where the Queen's horses are stored. Being that it was Sunday, the stables were closed. So we continued our walk towards Buckingham Palace. The Palace is closed during the year except for the summer. So we only got to see from afar. We took several pictures around the area and then started walking down St. James Park. It was here we bought ice cream cones and Cyn started taking pictures of the landscape to show her workers how the work should be done.

We visited the Calvary Museum. While walking down Whitewall Street, we noticed what seemed like a demonstration. As this demonstration started approaching us closer, we noticed the marching band and a whole bunch of people wearing green, white and, orange. It was a St. Patrick's Day parade! So we stayed a while for that. Afterwards we headed out to Winston Churchill's War Cabinet Museum. It was amazing to be in the same underground war operations room as he and his top commanders. We heard his voice as he transmitted his commands and messages to the public. That was an experience.

Our stomachs were rumbling for food, so we headed back to Whitewall Street and had a sandwich at the Churchill Cafe. As expected, the food did not meet our expectations (well, except for the fries). But we couldn't help notice that our waiter was definitely Mexican. It was strange to see our people in a country that has been predominately White for many years.

We made our way to the National Gallery but found it difficult to get there because of the Musical Concert Series for the St. Patty's Celebration. We saw a man drunk beyond recognition getting arrested by the police on the street. A group of men in their kilts and bagpipes also made their presense. We took pictures with them and the first things out of our months were "Ya used me Skinner" with Groundskepper Willy voice.

We finally made it to the gallery where we saw some Degas, Cezannes, Van Gohgs, and Rembrandts. We were in search for the Michelangelo's and Raphael's art collection but that became a mission impossible. Cyn and I had hopped on an elevator to get to zero ground. The doors closed and when they opened, we noticed we were looking at the same people. To this date, we can't recall if the elevator actually moved. So we darted out of the gallery not to face any embarrassment and made our way to the National Portrait gallery. We made a comment about how many of the men from the 1700-1800 had the same wiggist.

We then laughed because we started thinking of our guys friends with wigs and tights. We walked South on Charing Cross St and encountered the Sherlock Holmes Bar. We kept walking and crossed the Golden Jubilee Bridge. It was so beautiful to cross the Thames River and see the London Eye, Big Ben Tower, Westminster Abbey, House of Parliament, all in one setting. We waited in line to get on top of the London Eye. the view of the city was amazing. After the ride we decided to get on the City Cruise across the river, but they were closed. We were trying to decided whether to go back to Camden Town and drink, or call it a night. We decided to play it by ear.

We found a Chinese restaurant by our hotel and ate.I had the Sweet & Sour chicken noodles. I've had better. As we were almost done, a man comes up to us and inquired about our "accent". Cyn responded the States. He then asked if we would join him for a drink at a near by Irish Pub called O'Reillys. We had a great time. He kept on buying us drink after drink after drink. His name was Noel and he was from Ireland. After two drinks there, we ran out after seeing a mouse carrying a piece of bread bigger than it. Noel had a fear for mice. We then walked over to another pub called Fullers and had a great time there. In fact, we were having too much fun that one of the barmaids had asked Noel if he would please quiet down his party. He then gave us his number and asked him to call him tomorrow. We called it a night after a very hard crawl up three flights of stairs back to our bedroom.
